We were commissioned to make this prominent central piece by the winery’s new tasting room. We hand-milled the pine slab from a downed pine log that had been sitting for years on the winery’s property, and had special significance to the owners.
We took the slab from the field to the bar — removing rot and extensive bug damage, shaping the live edge carefully to preserve its natural curves, and strengthening the degraded wood with clear epoxy, creating a wood relic that transports the story of the Carmel Valley winery to the tasting room in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Using our signature hard wax oil and natural waterproof finishes, we were able to bring out the grain and vibrant colors of this special wood, without leaving that tacky texture that typical bar tops are known for.
This piece is the first thing you see when you walk into the tasting room and brings the story of the vineyard’s origins to life.
