We sourced the Oregon Black Walnut for this project from our same favorite mill in Portland, OR — Goby Walnut — and collaborated extensively with the client to select the optimal slab with the best edge curves that could be mirrored to create the “River” concept for her custom epoxy river conference table.
We picked up the slab on our trip up the coast, and back at the studio, we designed the table in CAD, with rendered images of the finished piece for the client to contribute her preferences on the specific river curves, the custom epoxy color to match her color palette, and the design of the custom base. We flattened the slab on our slab flattener and cut out the sections we wanted to use, reserving the remainder of the slab for a future project to accent this client’s office to create a cohesive collection. We mixed sample colors for the client to review, poured the epoxy river, and got to work hand-finishing every inch of the piece. We created an original design for the wooden base with elegant curves using walnut wood from the same slab.
The satisfaction of delivering the piece into the client’s office and imagining all the good work that will be done around the table is why we love creating these custom works of art.
