For this custom walnut table and bench, we went straight to the source — our favorite supplier of kiln-dried, spectacular Oregon Black Walnut in Portland, OR — Goby Walnut. After selecting the perfect milled slab with the help of our client, we made the journey up the coast of California into Walnut Country - Oregon - to pick up the slab and bring it home to our studio.
Back at the studio, we designed the table and bench in CAD, and rendered images of the finished piece for the client to confirm the section of wood to be used, and the design of the custom base. We flattened the slab on our slab flattener and cut out the sections we wanted to use, reserving the remainder of the slab for a future project for this client’s collection. We got to work hand-finishing every inch of the piece, sharing progress photos with the client and confirming every detail along the way.
Delivering the finished pieces and seeing our client’s reaction as they experience the pieces in their home is the best part of the job — knowing these pieces will be enjoyed for generations as a centerpiece of their daily life.
