PAST CUSTOM PROJECTS
Solid Monterey Cypress Spiral Staircase, 2026
“We had an incredible experience with Rob and Jen, from start to finish. They took a project that was unique and challenging and made it a beautiful reality. Their vision for projects is truly one of a kind. They took our staircase replacement ideas and made them into something more than we could’ve imagined. Their products respect the natural beauty of woodworking, and maintain that beauty while also making something functional and sturdy enough to last a lifetime. They made us something our family will cherish for generations!
They are kind, professional, and easy to communicate with. We will be using them for any future wood projects! “

Wood with a Story: We salvaged the Monterey Cypress for this epic project from a local community tree service. Stunning wood that would have otherwise been chipped became a functional piece of art added to a Carmel Valley home. This project provided a complex design challenge that we were able to achieve through highly detailed work using CAD to create a model of the staircase piece by piece, considering how each block and all of the elements fit together to arrive flush between the top and bottom floors of this home. When the last block was lowered into place, the feeling was pure satisfaction, as our planning and hand-crafting of each piece met the moment of installation perfectly.
We will be adding a custom Cypress wood handrail to make this project complete.
Wood with a Story: We sourced the Oregon Black Walnut for this project from our same favorite mill in Portland, OR — Goby Walnut — and collaborated extensively with the client to select the optimal slab with the best edge curves that could be mirrored to create the “River” concept for her custom epoxy river conference table.
We picked up the slab on our trip up the coast, and back at the studio, we designed the table in CAD, with rendered images of the finished piece for the client to contribute her preferences on the specific river curves, the custom epoxy color to match her color palette, and the design of the custom base.
We flattened the slab on our slab flattener and cut out the sections we wanted to use, reserving the remainder of the slab for a future project to accent this client’s office to create a cohesive collection. We mixed sample colors for the client to review, poured the epoxy river, and got to work hand-finishing every inch of the piece. We created an original design for the wooden base with elegant curves using walnut wood from the same slab.
The satisfaction of delivering the piece into the client’s office and imagining all the good work that will be done around the table is why we love creating these custom works of art.
Oregon Black Walnut Conference Table with Hand-Fabricated Wooden Base, 2025
— For a Custom Client in Pacific Grove, CA
Wood with a Story: For this custom walnut table and bench, we went straight to the source — our favorite supplier of kiln-dried, spectacular Oregon Black Walnut in Portland, OR — Goby Walnut. After selecting the perfect milled slab with the help of our client, we made the journey up the coast of California into Walnut Country - Oregon - to pick up the slab and bring it home to our studio.
Back at the studio, we designed the table and bench in CAD, and rendered images of the finished piece for the client to confirm the section of wood to be used, and the design of the custom base.
We flattened the slab on our slab flattener and cut out the sections we wanted to use, reserving the remainder of the slab for a future project for this client’s collection. We got to work hand-finishing every inch of the piece, sharing progress photos with the client and confirming every detail along the way.
Delivering the finished pieces and seeing our client’s reaction as they experience the pieces in their home is the best part of the job — knowing these pieces will be enjoyed for generations as a centerpiece of their daily life.

Wood with a Story: We sourced the Redwood for this project from the Santa Cruz mountains to highlight the mission behind this organization to showcase the beauty of the region.
We picked up the Redwood slab and lumber and back at the studio, we designed the desk in CAD, with rendered images of the finished piece for the clients to collaborate on to match their vision for the form and functionality of this piece. They wanted to match the angles of the reception space, and create a centerpiece to direct the flow of their welcome center.
We flattened the slab on our slab flattener and cut out the sections we wanted to use. We hand-fabricated the steel framework for the desk, as well as the drawer system. Using an ancient wood-burning technique from Japan, known as Shou Sugi Ban, we blackened the Redwood forming the sides of the desk, bringing out the texture of the wood grain, and at the same time, protecting the wood from scratches in the high-traffic environment of this welcome center.

70’ Wedding Table
Seven 10’ Cypress Live-Edge Timber Frame Dining Tables & Benches, 2025
— For a Custom Client in Carmel, CA
Wood with a Story: To highlight the local beauty of their area at their mountain home wedding, this couple commissioned a set of seven 10’ Dining Tables & Benches to seat their entire guest party at one family-style table. We sourced the Monterey Cypress from a local community tree service, and milled the logs into slabs to create these pieces.
The timber frame joinery we used to create these pieces adds to the rustic aesthetic, while lending bold statements of elegance and strength to this timeless style. Upon delivery, we carefully matched the dimensions of the ends of each table to form one seamless curving edge, creating the illusion of one long table.
The epic statement this table makes became the centerpiece for this couple’s union, and created heirloom pieces they will cherish as memories of their special celebration.
Oregon Black Walnut Live Edge Fireplace Mantle, 2025
— For a Custom Client, Monterey, CA
Wood with a Story: We hand-selected the Oregon Black Walnut live-edge slab for this mantle from Goby Walnut in Portland, OR.
We took the slab from milled form to high finish, adding our signature hard wax oil to bring out the grain and vibrant colors of this special piece to add the warmth and beauty of natural wood to the heart of our client’s home.
Wood with a Story: We we commissioned to make this prominent central piece by the winery’s owners for their new tasting room. We hand-milled the pine slab from a downed pine log that had been sitting for years on the winery’s property, and had special significance to the owners.
We took the slab from the field to the bar — removing rot and extensive bug damage, shaping the live edge carefully to preserve its natural curves, and strengthening the degraded wood with clear epoxy, creating a wood relic that transports the story of the Carmel Valley winery to the tasting room in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Using our signature hard wax oil and natural waterproof finishes, we were able to bring out the grain and vibrant colors of this special wood, without leaving that tacky texture that typical bar tops are known for.
This piece is the first thing you see when you walk into the tasting room and brings the story of the vineyard’s origins to life.
15’ Live-Edge Monterey Pine Bar Top, 2024
“We couldn’t be happier with the live edge bar that Rob & Jen created for our tasting room. They were able to preserve all the natural character of the wood while giving it a beautiful, refined finish. It’s truly the statement piece of our space and always a conversation starter. It's durable enough for daily use, yet so soft and smooth that guests can’t help but reach out and touch it. Thank you both for your hard work, attention to detail, and craftsmanship!”
